We Give Thanks
Theme Challenge #2
Details for Theme Challenge #2
Our second theme challenge is to create at least one product, or even better, a mini-collection of at least 5 items (so you can hit that cross-sell requirement) focused on showing thanks, gratitude, or appreciation.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: Products designed and custom covers created by Friday, October 24.
Inspiration
While the idea of giving thanks certainly connects to the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving, appreciating the people and gifts we have been given in life is a reflection that has no season and knows no borders.
In sales terms, it is certainly “evergreen.” Certain terms surrounding appreciation and thanks do trend more heavily at certain times of year.
Below you will find a few charts from Pinterest trends that you may want to consider as you review your store’s current offerings and perhaps some of the tags and descriptions that you might want to update as we move into Quarter Four.
While you may already have products related to your niche surrounding the idea of thanks, I hope you will consider expanding on your offerings as well.
Notes & Tips
A few surprises and interesting notes from my Pinterest research:
“Thankful Thursday” is a term I’ve never heard of. I believe this might be a good trend to look into to tie in with your social media channels and posts.
“Thank You Quotes” can certainly be used on products, but my hunch is that many are looking for sentiments to include in cards and texts or to share in digital form. A blog about writing messages of thanks with a complimentary digital or printable resource might be an idea to pursue.
“Thankful Grateful Blessed” may have run its course, but it has seen a heavy spike in November the past two years. I would not spend a lot of time creating new products with this phrasing unless it is specifically connected to the Thanksgiving holiday. Definitely research, though, especially depending on your niche and store offerings.
Gratitude journals actually had a higher search volume at the start of the year than in November. This may show my preconceived notions as someone who lives in the United States. It was a good reminder to always work to broaden my view.
“Gratitude” is an especially good term to consider especially now through the early part of the year. “Appreciation” definitely trends in May and in connection with teachers and other school staff.
I don’t remember where, but I read awhile back that host/hostess gifts have recently surged in searches. Compared to the other terms I reviewed here, I didn’t see the burst I expected, but it might be worth digging deeper if it makes sense for your store. :)
You will find our private Pinterest board for this challenge here.
Please pin your submissions to this board and post in the comments below when you do so. This will give us a “heads up” to wander over and spread some “love” on your pin and possibly comment as well. I will also be repinning the items from this board onto a public board, which will be created soon.
